2025 Blood Moon

For the week leading up to the 2025 blood moon on 8 September, we were teased with a combination of weather forecasts predicting alternately clear skies and an overcast, wet night. As it turned out we experienced an overcast evening, followed by a mostly clear night as the moon rose, with the cloud cover (and some rain) arriving not long after the full eclipse commenced.
This is a composite image showing the progression of moons from the full mineral moon at top left, then progressing clockwise as the eclipse progressed. The sixth image (at the bottom left) was the last of the eclipsing moons, that was then followed by the blood moon (centre). When the cloud lifted, the final two images (left side) showed the progression back to the full moon.
This lunar eclipse series was captured near Gundaroo, Australia, just to the north of Canberra.
