Ballstad—the adventure begins
The red rorbuer (fisherman’s huts) of Hattvika Lodge make a stunning foreground for the beautiful scenery of the Lofoten Islands.
Aside from a stopover in Oslo, our first stop on our Norway 2025 adventures was the lovely fishing village of Ballstad, staying at the beautiful Hattvika Lodge.
The lodge is comprised of old and new buildings, including the robruer (fishing huts) pictured here. Some of these are apparently around 150 years old, although all are very modern and comfortable. Luxurious even.
From Ballstad we had great access to many of Lofoten’s central and northern photo spots, including Nusfjord, Haukland Beach, Uttakliev, Henningsvær and Gimsoy. Everyday was a new adventure.
I would say that just getting to Hallstad was an adventure in itself, but that would apply to pretty much every location in Lofoten.
We absolutely loved the old style charm staying here. Big tip: If you stay at Hattvika Lodge (and you should if you’re in the central part of Lofoten Islands) have the breakfast. It was amazing!
