Blue Angels Four
We had a surprise opportunity in San Francisco in 2008 to see the US Navy's Blue Angels in a display over the city's iconic Bay, during the annual Fleet Week.
Back in 2008 we arrived in San Francisco for a stopover en route to New York. Being jet lagged following the flight from Sydney, we decided to go for a long walk after checking into our hotel. We wound our way down to the Bay Side area, and were treated to a show as part of the annual Fleet Week. The US Navy’s Blue Angels were the main act, and like the thousands of others crowded around the waterfront, we were in awe of the amazing skill of these Navy aviators.
I was very lucky with the weather. Not only did the cloudless blue sky provide a stunning backdrop for the Blue Angels, the bright conditions meant I could easily handhold a 200mm lens. As a landscape photographer I don’t ordinarily rate bluebird days, but this one was the best.
I previously published another shot of the Blue Angels 6 from this day, but this image of four aircraft has a wonderful symmetry that really tells the story of the skills of these aviators.
I love to keep going back into my archives to share some images from over the years.
