Arctic Sculptures Uttakleiv’s Dragon's Eye
Ancient rocks and tidal pools frame a snow-draped mountain at Uttakleiv Beach. This is a wild, harsh coastline shaped by the storms that constantly batter Norway’s Lofoten Islands.
Perhaps the most famous feature of Uttakliev Beach is the Dragon’s Eye, a rock that sits at the base of an ancient hollow.
Finding the Dragon’s Eye on the day we visited was a bit of an adventure. The road to the end of the beach was icy, and it was a scramble across the rocks to get to the landmark. But it was totally worth it.
Of course, once we found it, others did too. A tourist group came by and it became more challenging to get a good image with everyone jostling to get a clear image. Be prepared to be patient and ready to go to get the shot.
The trick here is to shoot with an appropriate aperture to capture the Dragons Eye in the foreground, while keeping the background acceptably in focus. Focus stacking would be a good option, but would require enough time to get the shot.
